Soil Data
Water Erosion Prediction Project |
|
Soil parameter inputs for WEPP are based on 1992 SOILS-5 data. Currently the WEPP soils data is packaged as compressed ZIP files or compressed LZH files. The 1995 files are stored in LZH archives and the file names are limited to 8 characters. Files in the 2001 archives are stored in ZIP files and the names match the internal name of the soil. In addition, the 2001 version files include the soil texture as part of the name. The actual parameters inside the soil files are the same between the 1995 and 2001 versions - only the external file name has been modified to make it more readable. |
2001 Version Files
Complete install which includes 1 ZIP file for each state After downloading double-click on the weppsoils.exe file to start the installation. The soil archives must be installed in the same location as the main wepp install. The default location is c:/program files/usda-ars/wepp
Download all state soils (9.0mb)
These archives can be used with the Windows Interface by selecting the Tools menu and then Soil Archive Program. The soil archive program can extract files from the archive so they can then be imported and used in a WEPP simulation.
Individual state archives
As an alternative to downloading all the WEPP state soils data a specific archive may be downloaded. Download the ZIP file into the WEPP subdirectory data/soils For example, if WEPP was installed in the default location (C:/Program Files/USDA-ARS/WEPP) then the directory to save the file in is C:/Program Files/USDA-ARS/WEPP/data/soils These archives can be used with the Windows Interface by selecting the Tools menu and then Soil Archive Program. The soil archive program can extract files from the archive so they can then be imported and used in a WEPP simulation.
1995 Version Files
These files are available for FTP download in the stsoils directory. The soil names end with the two letter state abbreviation, some states have several archive files to download and will end in the number 1,2,3 or 4.. For example, files for Idaho are s5id1.lzh, s5id2.lzh, s5id3.lzh. These archives can be used with the Windows Interface by selecting the Tools menu and then Soil Archive Program. The soil archive program can extract files from the archive and place them in a directory where the WEPP Windows interface can then import and use the soil file in a simulation.
